August 2026 Bridge Training for Medical Professionals

NYC Action Medical is offering a 2-part online street medic training for medical professionals on August 22 and August 23, 2026.

Our bridge training is an 8-hour course for medical professionals to learn skills, operations, and ethos specific to street medicine and anti-oppressive community care. This training is open to anyone, regardless of geographic location.

Capacity for this training is limited to 300 participants. Individuals without prior street medic training will be prioritized. Please submit this form to apply. The application form closes on August 20 at 11:59PM ET.

Training Overview

Day 1: Saturday, August 22 5-9PM EST

The first day of the course will cover introductory terminology; historical grounding; street medic culture, ecosystems, and operations; scene safety; radical consent; power and positionality; and emotional first aid.

Day 2: Sunday, August 23 4-8PM EST

The second day of the course will cover a review of prior material, direct action preparation and care mapping, protest-specific risks and treatment, chemical weapons, bleeding control and gunshot wounds, and street medicine case studies.

Participants must attend both days in order to qualify as street medics. Trained street medics who receive a bridge training are encouraged to shadow and pair with experienced street medics prior to running on their own. We strongly encourage street medics to connect and build relationships with their local street medic collectives and affinity groups.

Qualifying for a Bridge Training

Bridge trainings are open to providers with direct patient care experience and clinical training. To qualify for a bridge training, you must have knowledge of:

  • Body substance isolation
  • Triage
  • Primary and secondary physical exams
  • C-Spine injury and stabilization
  • Assessing mental status and level of responsiveness
  • Airway and breathing interventions
  • Basic wound care
  • Common medical emergencies

Participants who qualify include, but are not limited to:

  • Emergency medical professionals, including EMTs, paramedics, certified first responders, and wilderness first responders
  • Clinicians, including physicians, nurses, physician assistants, and certified nursing assistants
  • Medical, nursing, and PA students

We recognize being a medical professional and healthcare worker encompasses many fields and certifications. However, given that we do not teach these skills in our bridge training, we limit participation for this course to individuals who already have the experience described above. Individuals who do not qualify for the training will be directed to attend our critical first aid training and future full street medic trainings. You can visit this page to look out for future public trainings.

Access Note*

ASL interpretation, CART captioning, and language interpretation will not be available. Automated live captioning will be enabled.

We will have multiple scheduled breaks, including bio breaks and a 30-minute break halfway through the session on each day. Feel free to take additional breaks as needed.

We encourage participants to engage with the course material in whatever way is most accessible for them, whether that is lying down, moving around, eating, hydrating, being on- or off- camera, using fidgets or stim toys, or joining while caregiving or with animal companions. We ask that folks engaging in substance use do so off-camera.

NYCAM aspires toward trauma-responsive pedagogy. We will provide general content warnings at the start of each day and specific content warnings throughout the course. We will also share nervous system regulation tools and offer opportunities for collective grounding.

This training will not be recorded.

*Additional access information and digital security measures will be shared with participants prior to the training.
