What We Offer

NYCAM currently offers 3 types of training courses.

Full Street Medic Training Course

A 20- to 28-hour training course, upon completion of which, participants become street medics. While this training has been done over a 3-day weekend in the past, street medic collectives have offered a range of different structures, from weekly sessions to a 4-day approach, spread over a 2 weekends 1 month apart. NYCAM strongly recommends the extended formats, as it is more effective for participant learning and more sustainable for trainers. Full street medic trainings are typically offered every couple of years, although NYCAM has tried to offer it biannually. This training is offered at a suggested donation of up to $100, with no one turned away for lack of funds.

Due to internal capacity, NYCAM currently can only offer this training in collaboration with another street medic collective(s) and organization(s).

Bridge Training for Medical Professionals

A 6- to 8-hour training course for people with medical training to learn skills specific to and operations common within street medicine, as well as the history, lineage, values, cultures, and theories of the street medic world. Typically this training has been a single day workshop, either online or in-person. NYCAM also offers a 2-day version. This training is offered at a suggested donation of up to $100, with no one turned away for lack of funds.

Trained street medics who receive either a full training or a bridge training are encouraged to shadow and pair with experienced street medics prior to running on their own and asked to build relationships with their local street medic collectives and affinity groups.

Critical First Aid in the Streets

A 3-to-5-hour workshop for anyone interested in providing first-aid within the framework of street medicine.  Participants will learn the history of street medicine, core values, as well as emergency medical interventions and basic first-aid. NYCAM customizes the CFA workshop to fit the needs and interests of the participants. This training is offered at a suggested donation of $10-50, with no one turned away for lack of funds.
